Our mission

Our mission is to explore the uncharted potential of autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs) and revolutionize underwater research and engineering. As one of the few university student teams focusing on maritime innovation, we aim to push the boundaries of technology to better understand and protect our underwater world.

Our driving force

HU Robosub is more than a student project; it is a launchpad for the engineers and innovators of tomorrow. Every system on the autonomous underwater vehicle, from navigation to power management, is designed, built, and tested by HU University of Applied Sciences Utrecht students. This hands-on learning model pushes students beyond the classroom, giving them real engineering challenges and real-world stakes. It is this student-driven mindset that keeps HU Robosub competitive on the international stage.

Why Robosub?

HU Robosub is an innovative underwater robotics project, run by teachers, students, and researchers of HU University of Applied Sciences Utrecht, with transformative potential across multiple industries. Designed to revolutionize maritime research and operations, HU Robosub offers diverse applications:

  • Research

  • Safety

  • Inspection

  • Maintenance

  • Students

From advancing maritime research to improving safety and innovation, this project bridges industry needs with student-driven development. Explore how HU Robosub makes an impact in inspection, maintenance, and education.

TAC Challenge

The TAC Challenge brings together student engineering teams from around the world to design, build, and operate marine robotic systems, tackling real-world underwater robotics and engineering challenges in Tau, Norway. As an autonomous underwater vehicle competition, TAC combines innovation, teamwork, and hands-on problem-solving with tasks developed in collaboration with leading industry partners, ensuring every challenge remains realistic, relevant, and aligned with real engineering needs. By bridging theory and practice, the TAC Challenge gives students hands-on experience in robotics, maritime technology, and systems engineering.
